Catheterization

Central venous catheters (CVC) are catheters inserted into the major deep (also termed central) veins of the neck, chest, or abdomen. CVCs are used for monitoring hemodynamic status, for administering medications or parenteral nutrition that require a high flow system for mixing, or for dialysis. Placement of a CVC is therefore one of the most common procedures performed in the care of high-risk patients. This program is designed to rapidly orient medical students, residents, attending physicians, and nurses to a standardized method of central venous catheter (CVC) placement.
